Lolla was a lotta fun this year. It wasn't as hot as last year, a reasonable 80-90 some degrees, and really we only baked under the sun on Friday, the rest of the weekend clouds provided some respite. That's not to say that sweat wasn't pouring, it was hot, but not unbearable. The set-up was good, having the stages alternate at each side of the park, although it was a hike between the north and south stages, eh what are you gonna do? Here's a brief synopsis day by day, Highlights for me on Friday were the Editors, The Raconteurs rocked, and Ween put on a pretty good show as well. I actually headed north to check out Ryan Adams, who completely turned out to be a douche, it was basically a joke, way to turn people on Ryan. Anyway, besides that a great day, the beer was flowing and the sun was baking us. Saturday was pretty sweet, got there a little late, but started out catching Coheed and Cambria's second half, then Wolfmother rocked out hardcore, followed by Gnarls Barkley soulful melodies. Went up North to check out the Lips, (missing Common) this way I was able to catch Thievery Corporation's full set which was off da hook, they might have been my favorite of the whole fest, they really turned it up a notch with this performance keeping the energy level high throughout the show. Followed that up by seeing Kanye, who brought in some local talent and showcased that for half the show, which was cool, but some if was like 'who dat?' he ended up doing a few of his more played songs, which ended up being pretty cool. Finally, Sunday came, pretty good day overall, caught second half of Matisyahu after leaving the Shins, he was pretty good, his band was really good, She wants Revenge delivered, I thought they were good, never seeing them before and only hearing a few songs. Stayed on the south side for the rest of the night, and caught the three remaining bands, Queens of the Stone age, Broken Social Scene and The Chili Peppers, probably should have caught Wilco, but again the whole walk north and back south thing. Overall all those shows were good, and I was happy to stay on the south side, never seen the Chili Peppers before so that was cool as well. Anyway, I feel this diatribe has been too long and dnot informative enough, so here are some pictures, and I'll shut up. |
